“Sometimes I talk to the wave. Oh my god, you’re going to do this to me? No, you’re mean. Ok! I’m prepared for you.” - Silvia Nabuco
We follow three female big wave surfers based in Hawaii in this beautiful, and intimate, short documentary. Prepare to be inspired by the freedom, strength and peace that the roaring ocean can give, as Silvia, Raquel and Leane share their stories about waves and life.
Fifty-year-old Silvia comes from a family of Olympic athletes with a firm father pushing her and her brother to train hard to become athletic champions. She found surfing later in life and her challenge has been to find her own place in the world, not controlled by men.
Raquel was encouraged by her father to catch waves early on, advising her to always face her fears and never limit herself. With her 3-meter-tall surfboard under her arm she hitchhikes to the waves around the island.
Lastly, Leane had a surfing accident that makes her rethink her relationship to big waves. While she has taken a pause from surfing big waves she is still very much a fish in the water.
Your Wings Are Going To Grow takes us to the Hawaiian islands of Oahu and Maui, to world famous surf breaks like Jaws and Waimea, and gives us epic sunsets and life affirming sunrises.
