Palme

Olof Palme was openly shot to death on a February evening 1986 on a street in Stockholm. In one night, Sweden was transfigured. “"Palme" is a film about his life, his time and about the Sweden he created. About a man who altered history.

During his lifetime, Olof Palme was transported from the environs of the upper class to the ranks of the Democratic Socialists. He was a highly privileged boy, who ended up creating the world’s most equal society. He was the tactitian who was driven by his passion for social justice. The fiery speaker who found inspiration in children’s classic literature. The persuasive democrat who incited the US to recall their ambassador from Sweden. He was worshipped and hated.

Through Olof Palme, a minor country like Sweden influenced major international politics. Olof Palme was brilliant, attracting both men and women. Filled with enthusiasm, he travelled the world over, creating impressions and influencing history. The world was at his feet. The possibilities. The visions. The will to transform.

This documentary about Olof Palme is a journey through time, in pictures and experiences. Lisbet Palme, his widow, is participating and contributing her voice. International celebrities such as Jesse Jackson and archbishop Desmond Tutu also participates in the film. The film also includes photos and films from the family’s archives.

"Palme" won two Guldbagge Awards at the swedish annual Film Gala January 21st 2013, for Best Music and Best Editing respectively. The films soundtrack is specially composed by Benny Andersson, former member of swedish supergroup ABBA.
