Mo Yan – The Nobel Laureate 2012

An exclusive interview with Chinese author Mo Yan, the Nobel Literature Prize laureate of 2012.

SVT’s reporter Ann Victorin meets Mo Yan in his childhood village Gaomi, in the province of Shandong. This is his literary kingdom where all his books are set.

Mo Yan shows the house where he grew up, a simple hut with earth floors. He talks about the tremendous poverty of his childhood and how it has influenced everything he has ever written. Mo Yan also explains how he can be a member of the Communist Party and still be a critical writer.
